On your approach to preparing for inevitable suffering, do you have any research that points to its effectiveness? I am a bit skeptical that training for one kind of suffering (physical in your case) would help face other kinds of suffering.
Unfortunately, I don't have any definitive research for its' effectiveness, and wrote most of this week's thoughts off of anecdotal evidence. However, I've personally found that although the type of suffering is different, I am still able to apply the general mindset to both situations. A recent example that comes to mind is a paper I was assigned to complete in a relatively short period of time. Although writing a paper and going for a long run are very different things, I find that I apply the same mindset to both where I compartmentalize the difficulties of each into segments to get through the task. It's not exactly one-to-one, but I find that general frames of mind are what can be used for each hardship.
Well said! I always end up more satisfied and happy after doing something that was difficult or not interested in doing.
It's self training and very fulfilling! And peprares me to deal with I face an unexpected issue.
