Week 78 - "The right thing at the wrong time is the wrong thing" - Joshua Harris
Other than the quality of someone’s personality, I think the second most important factor in any type of relationship with someone is when you meet them.
You can meet the most amazing person who could be your best friend, mentor, or even a future spouse, but if it’s at the wrong time, it just won't work out.
Isn’t that disheartening?
There are so many people who can play a massive part in your life but won’t just because you met them at the wrong time. And that’s something you’ll never know until it happens.
It’s odd too because it’s not exactly like you can protect yourself from it. Trying to hold yourself back from developing a connection with someone as you’re with them just feels unnatural and wrong.
If anything, the only thing you can really do is accept it for what it is. Accept that unfortunately, because time isn’t on your side, this person is probably not going to have the place in your life that you want them to.
You can try to reject this reality and bend over backward, trying to slow your life down or speed it up to align with theirs. But deep down, you’ll know that’s the wrong decision.
It sucks, I know, but it’s the only thing you can do.
I hate cliches, but if something is meant to work out, it will. And if it doesn’t, it just wasn’t meant to be.
After all, we can’t control when someone enters or leaves our lives, so appreciate the connections you make, however short or long they are. Each of them has the potential to teach you something about yourself and the world around you.
And even if the unpredictability sucks, it’s also what makes it all so beautiful. Random encounters, unexpected friendships, and even goodbyes, they’re all part of the experience.
The true measure of any connection isn’t in its length or outcome, but in what it brings you in the moment.
