Week 72 - "We're the ones that get to die. Because you only get to die for having lived" - Neal deGrasse Tyson
Death is a lot of things. For most, it’s the end—a sort of 'finish line' that we can’t see until it’s in our faces.
Others look at it as a beginning. A path to a better( or worse) life dictated by one’s beliefs, deeds, or destiny.
But for all, death is a privilege.
The odds of us being alive right now are so infinitesimally small that it doesn’t even feel real. Yet, here we are, obsessed about our past and anxious about the future.
It’s crazy really. The comfort we've created for ourselves has distanced us so much from our reality that we view death as the price we pay for life, when in fact, it's the other way around.
We get to die. And although everyone can say that, that’s only because they got to live. The possibilities of everyone who could have been will never have the privilege of life, death, and everything in between.
I say this all as both a reminder to you and myself. We’re alive right now. And one day, we won’t be.
So don’t take anything between now and then for granted. It’s all a privilege.
